FULLERTON, Calif. – Cal State Fullerton Athletics and Hermosa Drive Elementary have partnered up this year to produce a Fitness Focused education program in an effort to promote a healthy lifestyle and stress the importance of exercising and eating correctly.

Members of Cal State Fullerton's baseball and softball programs have been the first teams to visit with the eager students at Hermosa Drive.

"It's been so awesome to hang out with these kids and see the pure joy on their faces while playing baseball," said baseball's Brett Conine. "I actually think I was having just as much fun as they were."

While schools across the state of California are losing the needed funds to support physical education programs, Hermosa Drive Principal Danielle Ramirez knew a program like this was more important than ever.

"I grew up playing sports and the benefits are just countless," Ramirez said. "Not only is it important to teach our kids the importance of healthy habits and exercise, but some of the lessons sports teaches someone are invaluable. From good sportsmanship to the importance of teamwork, all of these things are skills our kids will need to know as they continue to grow."

In addition to promoting the importance of a healthy lifestyle, Ramirez hopes this program will encourage more families to enroll their kids at Hermosa Drive, while the school can also serve as an example for others across the country.

"This is so much fun!" said a beaming fourth grade student Ben Parker. "Baseball is my favorite sport and to play with a real baseball player is really cool.

The Titans look forward to visiting and sharing their love of sports with the students at Hermosa Drive all year long, and who knows, maybe there's a future Titan or two in the bunch!
