Derrick Fazendin is in his second year at Cal State Fullerton serving as a sports media assistant in the athletics department, working primary with the men’s soccer, women’s basketball and track and field teams.
Prior to arriving at Cal State Fullerton, Fazendin spent a year with Los Angeles Angels MLB franchise, serving as a Media Relations Assistant for the duration of the 2012 baseball season. While at the Angels, Fazendin was responsible for constructing postgame notes, putting together statistical packets, and handling various daily media requests.
Fazendin graduated from the University of Arizona in 2012 with a bachelors degree in journalism and a minor in sports management.
There, he served as a student assistant in Arizona’s sports information office, working primarily with the 2012 College World Series National Champion Arizona baseball team. He helped construct and edit the 2012 media guide, put together weekly game notes, wrote feature pieces for ArizonaWildcats.com, and helped coordinate interviews between players, coaches, and the media, among other duties.
He also served as the Media Relations Coordinator for the University of Arizona rugby team during the 2012 season and spent three years as the Arizona baseball beat writer for Rivals.com’s GOAZCATS.com and Scout.com’s WildcatAuthority.com during his time in Tucson.
In addition, Fazendin has produced work for ESPN Radio KFFN 1490, the Arizona Daily Star, KAMP Radio, and UATV.
A Southern California kid all the way around, Fazendin, 23, was born and raised in Mission Viejo, Calif., where he currently resides.
